On the sixteenth day of its war in Ukraine, Russia has accomplished less and struggled more than expected at the start of Europe’s largest land combat since World War II. On Thursday, the Russian invasion of Ukraine began its third week, with Russian military continuing to assault key cities and desperate residents attempting to flee via agreed-upon safe corridors. Since Russian military stepped into Ukraine on February 24, thousands of people have been dead and more than 2.3 million have fled the nation. Food, medication, heat, and power have been in limited supply in besieged areas, and hundreds of trapped civilians were hoping to flee on Thursday during temporary cease-fires agreed upon by the two sides – but most previous attempts failed due to continuous shelling.

Meanwhile, even as hundreds of corporations have announced plans to cut connections with Russia, a dwindling number of well-known companies continue to conduct business there. Burger King restaurants are open, Eli Lilly is delivering pharmaceuticals, and PepsiCo is offering milk and baby food, but there is no longer any soda available.
