Tensions between Russia and Ukraine have reached their 17th day, as the United States continues to impose stronger sanctions against Russia in reaction to its invasion of Ukraine. On Friday, Russia expanded its offensive in Ukraine, striking airfields in the west and a major industrial city in the east, while the massive armoured column that had been stuck outside Kyiv for more than a week looked to have spread out near the capital. Military analysts were split on whether the Russian convoy’s shifting indicated the start of a siege of Kyiv or was simply an attempt to distribute some vehicles to safer locations.

Over 2.5 million people have been forced to evacuate Ukraine as a result of the conflict, while others have sought sanctuary in basements, subway stations, and underground shelters. More evacuations were planned, despite the fact that repeated attempts to allow residents to evacuate the beleaguered port city of Mariupol in the south have failed due to Russian fire. Russia claimed it employed high-precision long-range weaponry to disable military airfields in both cities. Ihor Polishchuk, the mayor of Lutsk, stated that four servicemen were killed and six others were injured.
