Despite fatal strikes on a Ukrainian broadcast tower, the capital, and a pro-Russian separatist territory, Russia and Ukraine held new talks on Monday in an attempt to stop Moscow’s destructive conflict.

Russian soldiers not only drew closer to Kyiv, but also maintained their siege of Mariupol, a southern port city where almost 2,200 people have been murdered, according to officials. Russia’s military had previously concentrated their efforts in Ukraine’s eastern and southern regions, which are home to a higher proportion of ethnic Russians, but have now moved to the country’s centre.

The United Nations estimates that about 2.8 million people have fled Ukraine since Russian President Vladimir Putin started a full-scale land and air attack on February 24, most of them to Poland, which is straining to accommodate the influx.

Korean Air has stated that it will reroute flights that have used Russian airspace.

Korean Air Lines announced on Tuesday that it will reroute flights to Europe and eastern North America that traversed Russian airspace, citing operational issues and safety concerns.

The airline also announced that all passenger and freight services to and from Moscow and Vladivostok will be suspended until the end of April.

The United Kingdom claims that Russia is preparing to launch a chemical attack on Ukraine.

Britain’s Defence Ministry claimed in a tweet on Monday that Russia may be prepared to use chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine in reaction to a staged false attack on Russian forces.

It provided no proof to back up its claim in what it called an intelligence update. Similar assertions have been made by officials in the United States.
