During his three-day visit to the United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet with US President Joe Biden on Friday. The two leaders are likely to have a lengthy discussion about bilateral relations as well as the situation in Afghanistan.

This will be his first meeting with Biden since taking office as President of the United States in January of this year. After Biden, a Democrat, was elected president of the United States in January, the two leaders spoke on several occasions. Their most recent phone call took place on April 26. PM Modi met Biden during his first visit to the United States as Prime Minister in 2014, which preceded today’s meeting. Biden was Vice President in President Barack Obama’s government at the time.

PM Modi will then attend President Joe Biden’s first-ever in-person Quad Leaders’ Summit. During the event, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga will join Modi and Biden. Biden will meet separately with Japan’s Prime Minister Suga later.
