A Tunisian national has been detained by Scotland Yard on suspicion of murdering and assaulting a British woman of Indian ancestry in her London student apartment. On Saturday, Sabita Thanwani, a 19-year-old British national, was discovered with serious neck injuries at Arbour House student flats in London’s Clerkenwell district.

The Metropolitan Police made an urgent request for Maher Maaroufe, a 22-year-old male who had been in a relationship with Thanwani, according to the police. Officers apprehended the wanted suspect on Sunday in the same Clerkenwell neighbourhood where the victim’s body had been recovered the day before. I’d like to thank everyone for publicising and spreading our appeal to find Maaroufe, said the investigation’s lead detective, Detective Chief Inspector Linda Bradley of the Met Police Specialist Crime Unit.

Sabita’s family has been kept informed of the situation, and they are still receiving assistance from specially trained officers. We send them our heartfelt sympathies. She asked that everyone respect them privacy as they cope with Sabita’s murder, which she described as “indescribably painful.”

Although formal identification is still pending, Thanwani’s family has been notified ahead of a special post-mortem examination that will be scheduled in the near future, according to the Met Police. Maaroufe was dating Sabita, but he wasn’t a student. Detective Bradley stated in a public appeal in the case that he is a Tunisian national with no fixed residence.

She said, “I am also appealing, once again, for Maher Maaroufe to attend a police station promptly.” Maher I’m making a direct appeal to you: if you see this, please report it to your local police station. It’s critical that we communicate with you.

Thanwani was a City University of London student who was said to be with Maaroufe on Friday. We are unable to comment on the police investigation because it is still ongoing, said a representative for Unite Students, which administers the Arbour House student accommodation. At this time, our top focus is the safety and well-being of Arbour House students. “We are working closely with the police and the City, University of London,” according to the spokeswoman.

A spokeswoman for City, University of London stated the university was in frequent contact with Unite Students. We will do everything we can as a university to support our students and employees, and we will continue to fully support the authorities in their investigation, according to a university representative.
