Anthony Albanese, Australia’s new prime minister, has stated that he will meet with US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“It allows us to convey a statement to the world that there has been a change of government,” he told reporters after his center-left Labor Party won the national elections on Saturday.
“There will be some policy changes, notably with relation to climate change and our involvement with the globe on these matters,” said the 59-year-old leader, who has promised to speed Australia’s carbon-cutting efforts.
Albanese stated that he and key members of his staff would be sworn in on Monday.
The next day, he has pledged to the Tokyo summit meetings in the loosely formed “Quad” grouping of Australia, India, Japan, and the Unified States, which is united in its worry over China’s expanding military and economic influence.
