The Pakistani media has slammed the country’s dissolution of the National Assembly, claiming that whatever happened on Sunday breached all norms controlling operations in the House, notably those dealing with the motion of no-confidence. On Sunday, Pakistan National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri denied the no-trust resolution against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) administration, calling it a violation of Article 5 of the country’s Constitution. Furthermore, on Imran Khan’s recommendation, Pakistan President Arif Alvi dissolved the National Assembly.

The Dawn daily argued in an editorial published on Monday that Imran Khan could have played the political game like a genuine sportsperson and still emerged stronger from the loss given the sharp narrative he had crafted leading up to the poll.

The Pakistani publication said that with the legislative process pulverised on the orders of a leader who continues to despise it, Pakistan has been thrust into the dark abyss of a constitutional crisis.

Following the rejection of a no-confidence motion against the Imran Khan-led government, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated that “Imran’s coup” drives the country into yet another compromised election.

On Sunday, Pakistan National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri denied the no-trust resolution against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) administration, calling it a violation of Article 5 of the country’s Constitution. Furthermore, on Imran Khan’s recommendation, Pakistan President Arif Alvi dissolved the National Assembly.

According to Pakistan Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, all orders and actions taken by Imran Khan and the president regarding the dissolution of the National Assembly will be subject to the court’s decision.

Bandial made the remark after observing the current situation in the country, which included the rejection of a no-confidence resolution against Imran Khan by NA Deputy Speaker Suri.
