Police in the United States say a woman jumped from the eighth floor to escape a man wielding a "ghost gun"

A woman in Washington, DC, is fighting for her life after jumping from her eighth-floor apartment in a high-rise building to avoid a gunman. The gunman had bound her arms and legs, according to NBC. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the woman was able to partially free herself and “jumped from the building” with her legs still bound.

According to the police, the woman and the gunman “were involved in a dispute inside a residence on the eighth floor,” and the suspect fled the scene after the victim jumped out the window.

The incident occurred on Thursday in a Northwest Washington, DC apartment, and police discovered a “rifle-style” ghost gun during their investigation.
According to police, the suspect, Kylee Jamal Palmer, was arrested after returning to the scene of the crime later that night and charged with assault with intent to kill, possession of an unregistered firearm, and possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.

The woman was taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries.
The incident occurs less than a week after US President Joe Biden vowed to crack down on phantom guns in the country.

What exactly are ghost guns?

These firearms, which the White House describes as “unserialized, privately-made guns that law enforcement is increasingly recovering at crime scenes across the country,” have proliferated in recent years in the United States.

In 2021, law enforcement recovered approximately 20,000 suspected ghost guns during criminal investigations and reported them to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). According to the White House, this is a tenfold increase from 2016.

Ghost guns can be built using “buy build shoot” kits or 3D-printed.
