Marina Ovsyannikova, a Russian media worker who staged a protest against by the invasion of Ukraine on live state tv in March, was briefly detained in Moscow on Sunday, according to posts on her social media channels. “Marina has been detained,” said a post on her Telegram channel, alongside images of two policemen leading her to a white van.
Soon after, Ovsyannikova shared photos of herself with two dogs on her Facebook page.
“Went for a walk with the dogs, and as I was about to step outside the gate, people in uniform contacted me,” she wrote. “Right now, I’m sitting in the Krasnoselsky Ministry of Internal Affairs,” he says, referring to a police station in a Moscow neighborhood.
Ovsyannikova announced her release three hours later. “I’ve returned home. Everything is fine, “She stated this on her Facebook page. “But now I know that if you go out, you should always bring a suitcase and your passport.”
Ovsyannikova rose to prominence in March after storming into a studio of Russian state television, her former employer, to repudiate the Ukraine war during a live news broadcast.
After being found guilty of violating protest laws, she was fined.
Her brief detention on Sunday followed social media posts on July 15 in which she was seen holding a poster that called Russian President Vladimir Putin a murderer and his troops fascists. “How many more young kids must die before you stop?” read the poster.
In April, the German newspaper Welt hired Ovsyannikova as a correspondent. She returned to Russia earlier this month, claiming on Facebook that she was forced to do so in order to defend her parental rights against her husband in court.
