President Volodymyr Zelensky has escaped at least three murder attempts, according to a report, as Russia continues to pound Ukraine in order to consolidate control over the eastern European country.

According to The New York Times, the assassination attempts were thwarted after anti-war Russian intelligence alerted Ukrainian authorities to two independent mercenary groups’ kill plans.

“I can state that we have got information from [Russia’s Federal Security Service], who do not want to participate in this deadly battle,” Ukraine’s Secretary of National Security and Defense told local TV stations, according to the New York Times.

The mercenaries are linked to the Kremlin-backed Wagner organisation and Chechen special forces, according to reports.

The assassin teams suffered losses throughout the operation, according to the report, and were astounded at how Ukrainian soldiers were well informed about their plans and accurately stopped them.

The murder attempt was supposedly ‘fully briefed’ to Zelensky’s security team, allowing them to be prepared with a counter-plan.

Earlier this week, claims surfaced that up to 400 Russian mercenaries had been sent in from Africa to assassinate President Zelensky and his whole administration.

According to the New York Times, the army-for-hire was flown in a few weeks ago by ‘oligarch’ Yevgeny Prigozhin, who is considered a close associate of Putin. According to the allegation, the Kremlin promised Prigozhin a large sum of money for the assassination mission.
