Imran Khan, Pakistan’s prime minister, has warning the international community against isolating Afghanistan, claiming that doing so would be detrimental to the entire globe. The prime minister made the remarks while chairing the Apex Committee on Afghanistan’s second meeting.
According to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, during the meeting, he encouraged the international community to help Afghanistan’s most vulnerable inhabitants, vowing that Pakistan will aid the Afghan people in any way possible to avert a humanitarian crisis.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid, Planning Minister Asad Umer, Financial Advisor Shaukat Tarin, Commercial Advisor Abdul Razaq Dawood, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, National Security Adviser Dr Moeed Yusuf, and other senior civil and military officials were in attendance at the meeting.
This comes as the Taliban tries to obtain international recognition as Afghanistan suffers from its greatest humanitarian catastrophe in decades.
The prime minister encouraged the international community to assist Afghanistan’s most vulnerable citizens, saying that Pakistan would assist the Afghan people in whatever way possible to avoid a humanitarian crisis, according to the statement.
Pakistan has already committed to provide urgent aid in the form of in-kind humanitarian assistance worth Rs5 billion, which includes food goods such as 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat, emergency medical supplies, winter shelters, and other supplies, according to the statement.
He also stated that humanitarian organisations desiring to work in Afghanistan from Pakistan should be assisted, and that Islamabad has already agreed to serve as the air and land bridge for humanitarian assistance to Kabul.
