An earthquake of 4.2 magnitude hit about two miles southeast of Aromas on Saturday night in California, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake could be felt across the South Bay, eight miles east southeast of Watsonville.

A preliminary magnitude 3.0 aftershock in the same general area followed the quake.
