Construction workers in New York City, US, discovered a woman’s skeleton while performing maintenance outside her apartment building. Marilyn McMichael, 54, lived in the South Jamaica Residences in Queens, New York, according to Newsweek. Ms. McMichael is thought to have died in August 2020, as that was the last time a page on her calendar was turned. On April 26, the discovery in Apartment 7-H was made. The workers were standing on scaffolding when they discovered the woman’s skeleton through her open room window on the seventh floor of the building.
Ms McMichael’s foster sisters, Simone Best Jones and Sharman McElrath, told WPIX-TV that they began fretting about her in June 2020, as the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic was fading. They stated that Ms McMichael named them and stated that she needed to go to the hospital.

“She didn’t sound sick at all,” Ms. McElrath said, adding, “she sounded a little manic, and I was attempting to explain to her that they don’t accept people at the hospital.”

Ms McMichael had a history of emotional issues, according to the foster sisters. They even claimed to have gone to the 54-year-apartment old’s to pay her a visit, but their knocks and phone calls went unanswered. Nonetheless, the sisters said that the 54-year-behavior old’s was not unusual, as she had previously chosen not to speak with them for years.

However, as time passed, their fears grew. In January of this year, Simone Best Jones and Sharman McElrath agreed to call 911 and file a crime report.

They were informed that McMichael had not paid his rent in over a year. When the sisters attempted to file a police report, they were told that they were not next of kin by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA).

An official informed the sisters that Ms Best Jones’ parents were on McMichael’s urgent card during a meeting with housing police officers. “I told them they’d both been dead for over 20 years,” Ms Best Jones continued.

The sisters were eventually able to persuade NYCHA managers and a police officer to accompany them to McMicahel’s apartment, but their maestro key could not open the floor. Ms Best Jones stated that they never attempted again after that. When the construction workers discovered the skeleton in April, the sisters claimed that McMichael’s neighbour informed them of the horrifying discovering.
According to WGNTV, the medical examiner’s office has confirmed that tests are being performed on McMichael’s skeleton, but it could be another four to six periods before a cause of death is determined.
