Moderna Inc announced on Friday that it was recalling 764,900 doses of its COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by its contract manufacturer Rovi after a vial was discovered to be contaminated with a foreign body.
Moderna stated that no safety issues were discovered in the lots distributed in January in Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden.

The contamination was discovered in only one vial, according to the drugmaker, who is recalling the entire batch out of “an abundance of caution.” It did not say what was discovered in the vial.

After an investigation discovered stainless steel contaminants in some vials, Japanese authorities suspended the use of doses of the vaccine, which Moderna later recalled.
