On Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian forces had “totally wrecked” the industrial Donbas area, accusing Moscow of carrying out reckless bombardments as it escalated its operation.

Zelensky further accused Russian soldiers of trying to murder as many Ukrainians as possible while causing as much damage as possible, reiterating his claim that Russia was committing genocide.

While Ukrainian forces continued to free the Kharkiv region to the east of Kyiv, Zelensky stated that Russia was attempting to exert even more pressure in the Donbas region of Ukraine.

“It is hell there – and that is not an exaggeration,” he said in a late-night video speech, adding that 12 people were killed in Severodonetsk’s “brutal and completely mindless bombardment” on Thursday.
