US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said last night that the Ukrainians had contingency plans in place in the event that President Volodymyr Zelensky was assassinated by Russia. According to journalist Margaret Brennan’s foreign affairs show “Face The Nation,” Mr. Blinken said he was in Ukraine just a day earlier and spoke with Ukraine’s foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba. He stated that they are making measures to keep the government running “one way or another,” but did not elaborate.
In a short video clip published by the TV show’s Twitter account, President Zelensky and his entire cabinet were also praised for their leadership, hinting of a longer interview with Mr Blinken. He commented, “They’ve embodied this really valiant Ukrainian people.”
President Zelensky has apparently survived three assassination attempts since the Russian invasion began 12 days ago. The schemes were found after Ukrainian officials were informed, according to The New York Times. The Wagner group and Chechen terrorists were allegedly sent to assassinate Ukraine’s president, according to rumours.
Mr Zelensky promised to punish anyone who “committed atrocities” in the war, which has claimed the lives of hundreds of people, including women and children, in a recent public address.
He warned of additional bombardment on Monday, saying, “It’s murder, premeditated murder.” “We will not forgive, we will not forget, and we will punish everyone who committed atrocities on our soil during this war,” he declared. “On this planet, there will be no tranquil spot but the tomb.”
On Monday, Russia and Ukraine will have their third round of negotiations aimed at resolving the violent conflict.
