According to fresh data given by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Omicron variant’s BA.2 sub-lineage has emerged as the prevalent strain in the US (CDC).

Due to its improved transmissibility compared to the original Omicron strain, the variant has been progressively increasing in popularity, according to Xinhua news agency.

According to data from the CDC, the BA.2 variation accounted for 54.9 percent of new Covid-19 infections in the week ending March 26.

This figure is up from 39% a week ago and 27.8% a month ago.

Early research revealed that the BA.2 subvariant is roughly 30% more transmissible than the BA.1 Omicron strain.
