According to governing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz, Pakistan’s ousted prime minister Imran Khan was so eager to retain power that he “begged” the military establishment till the last minute to save his administration.

The powerful army has ruled coup-prone Pakistan for more than half of its 75-year history, wielding tremendous clout in terms of security and foreign affairs. It has, however, distanced itself from the recent high-profile political squabble between Shehbaz Sharif and Mr Khan, claiming it has nothing to do with politics.

“Imran Khan was so desperate that he urged the establishment to save his government until his last moments in office. He had also asked former President and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari to assist him in the aftermath of a no-confidence vote filed against him “Maryam made the remarks late Tuesday night at a workers’ convention in Lahore.

She was alluding to Khan’s desperate efforts to postpone the vote on no-confidence against him until the Supreme Court opened at midnight on April 10 and instructed him to allow the constitutional process to conclude.

Mr Khan was deposed as prime minister on April 10 by a no-confidence vote called by the Opposition in the National Assembly, making him the first Pakistani prime minister to be deposed by Parliament in the coup-prone country.

Maryam has been charged by her father, three-time Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, with organising demonstrations, particularly in Punjab, to counter Mr Khan’s displays of public authority.

Sharif, against whom the previous Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government led by Mr Khan, had left for London in November 2019 after the Lahore High Court gave him a four-week permission to travel abroad for treatment.

Sharif recently received a new passport from the new coalition government led by the PML(N), opening the path for his return to the nation. The Sharif family, on the other hand, has stated that the decision on the 72-year-old PML-N supremo’s return will be made at the proper moment.

Maryam informed the charged workers that Khan’s troubled days had begun. “Imran Khan is outraged that Nawaz Sharif has ended his government while he is in London. “Imagine Imran’s state of mind when Nawaz arrives,” she remarked, referring to her father as “a lengthy race horse.” “a formalised paraphrase

The outspoken PML-N leader said that the former premier’s corruption scandals would be exposed soon.

“Soon Khan and his cabinet members will be imprisoned on irrefutable corruption charges,” she declared.

Maryam claimed Khan attempted to rule the country through ‘jadu tona (witchcraft).’ She claimed that his wife Bushra Bibi’s acquaintance Farah Gogi was involved in major corruption at their behest and that Khan assisted him in fleeing the country.

Maryam referred to the departed prime minister as ‘Tosha Khan,’ saying he sold Pakistan’s honour by selling gifts from other heads of state he received as premier.

“This man talks about national sovereignty while selling Toshakhana (national treasury) items in Dubai’s outdoor market. He should be embarrassed of his actions, which netted him more than 180 million dollars (through the sale of presents) “According to Maryam,
