The body of one of two crew members of a fighter plane that went missing two weeks ago was recovered by Japan’s airforce on Sunday.

The F-15 fighter jet was on a training flight when it vanished from radar immediately after taking off from Komatsu airbase in central Ishikawa on January 31, prompting a search for its crew.

The navy discovered a body in the Sea of Japan on Friday, according to the airforce.

The body’s identity has been confirmed by the military, but the name has not been released, and the search for his co-pilot continues.

Although the cause and manner of their plane’s crash are unknown, the military ministry has not tried to ground F-15s as a result of the incident.

Japan’s air force has been involved in a few mishaps.

After the pilot of an F-35A stealth jet encountered spatial disorientation, the plane fell into the water in 2019, prompting a race to rescue the body and valuable military equipment onboard.
