The Mindoro area of the Philippines was struck by a magnitude 6.3 earthquake, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said on Friday.

The quake occurred at a depth of 89 miles (144 km), EMSC said.

The temblor was also registered at the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology at magnitude 63, which was also felt in the capital region (Phivolcs).

According to an initial report by Phivolcs, the centre was traced at Calatagan in the province of Batangas, which said it did not expect damage but warned of aftershocks.

No tsunami warning was issued.
