The 49-year-old NRL legend’s untimely demise, which has shocked the rugby league community, prompted the family to release their first statement to the media.

Last week, Green was discovered dead at his Brisbane home. It was later tragically determined that he had committed suicide.

After Green’s passing, there was a flood of condolences to the former coach of the QLD Maroons and North Queensland Cowboys, since his brother Rick had told the Sunday Mail that a public funeral was being planned.

The Wynnum-Manly Seagulls’ Kougari Oval home field will serve as the location of Green’s farewell, which is scheduled for August 23 or August 30, depending on when the final date is determined.

In keeping with his accomplishments at NRL level, Green led the team to a premiership as both a player and a coach.

Speaking to the Sunday Mail, Rick acknowledged that the family had been shocked by the circumstances of Green’s passing.

Everybody is feeling overburdened, Rick declared.

There are undoubtedly many tales we are telling about our time with Paul, but as we remember those happy moments, we are deeply saddened by his departure.

It’s still highly unprocessed and tough to understand.

As the NRL community mourns the passing of the highly esteemed mentor, tributes have poured in from all quarters, including Todd Payten, the Cowboys’ head coach, and Peter Overton, a news anchor.

Green, who coached the 2015 Cowboys to their first grand final victory in team history and was a two-time recipient of the Rothman Medal, will go down in NRL history as a legend.

Prior to his passing, the Green family had released a statement.

The message began, “Today, we are crushed.”

“We have lost a loyal husband, a devoted father, a fantastic brother, and a lovely son. We thank all of those who have shown their love and support for us even if we are at a loss for words to adequately convey how we feel.

“Paul was loved by so many people, and we are aware that this news will attract a lot of attention, but at this time, we gently ask that you keep quiet.

The message reads, “We ask for time and space as we cope to this tragedy as our family is still trying to absorb this calamity.” I’m thankful.
