Adele Roberts, a Radio 1 DJ, has revealed that she has been diagnosed with colon cancer.

The 42-year-old breakfast show host claimed her diagnosis was verified at the beginning of this month, and she will undergo surgery on Monday to remove a tumour.

She revealed the news with a social media post in which she smiled, wore a medical gown, and gave a thumbs up sign.

“Very far, the outlook is optimistic, and I feel so lucky that I can be treated,” Adele said, adding that she still needs to learn if the cancer has spread.

“It’s only the beginning of my adventure,” she continued, “but I’m going to give it everything I have.”

In 2002, the DJ from Southport, Merseyside, rose to stardom after appearing on Channel 4’s Big Brother.

As she described how her own disease was discovered, she urged everyone to get checked out if they have any concerns.

“I’ve been having stomach problems for a while now,” Adele wrote.

“A few years ago, I went to my GP for a checkup after having a talk with my father. I’ll admit that I was humiliated, but I also realised that it could have been a severe situation.

“As a precaution, I went.” At first, I dismissed it as a case of food sensitivity.

“I was sent for certain tests and examinations after a few phone conversations.” Following that, I was told I had bowel cancer. It was the beginning of the month when this happened.

“I’m sorry for posting anything like this on here; it all happened so quickly,” she said. “I hope it helps anyone who is worried or suffering in silence.”

“The sooner you can visit your doctor or speak with someone, the sooner you’ll be able to get care,” she noted.

“I would not have been as lucky if I hadn’t.” There’s no such thing as ‘normal’ when it comes to cancer, as I’ve discovered during the last two weeks.

“Unfortunately, it can strike at any age and at any time. It’s not prejudiced in any way. It’s possible to preserve your life if you catch cancer early.”
