During a closed session of the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Tokyo on Tuesday, US President Joe Biden praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for handling the Covid-19 outbreak in a democratic manner, drawing a parallel between “India’s success and China’s failure.” According to a senior official, Biden compared India’s success to China’s failure to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the fact that both countries are comparable in size.
According to the official, Biden added that PM Modi’s success has demonstrated to the world that democracies can deliver, and has debunked the “myth that autocracies like China and Russia can handle the fast changing world better because their governance can take and implement decisions without going through lengthy democratic processes.”
