US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi expressed support for Ukraine’s “fight for freedom” during a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky during a visit to Kyiv on Sunday, according to US and Ukrainian officials. “We assume we are paying you a visit to convey our appreciation for your efforts in the fight for liberty… We guarantee that we will be there for you until the fight is over.” Pelosi told Zelensky, according to a video from the Ukrainian presidency.
“Thank you to the United States for your assistance in defending our state’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Zelensky said on Twitter.
“The United Nations stands firm behind Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression,” he said.

A Congressional delegation’s trip had not previously been announced.

“Our delegation proudly delivered the message that more American support is on the way as we work to transform President Biden’s strong budget proposal into a legislative package,” Pelosi’s office said in a statement.

Last week, US Vice President Joe Biden proposed a massive $33 billion (31 billion euro) package for arming and supporting Ukraine.
Biden also outlined suggested new laws that would allow Ukraine to use luxury assets taken from Russian oligarchs to compensate for the devastation caused by the invading Russians.
“When we return to the United States, we will be better informed, deeply inspired, and ready to do whatever is necessary to assist the Ukrainian people as they defend democracy for their country and the world,” Pelosi said in a statement.
