In the illegally occupied Gilgit Baltistan, unprecedented inflation and a drastic increase in the unemployment rate have spurred widespread protests in the region’s several areas. Hundreds of people marched through Ghizer area to protest the government’s false electoral promises, which have resulted in a multi-layered economic assault on the inhabitants. Subsidies on a wide range of items have been phased out, inflation has soared, and unemployment has reached historic highs.

Widespread unemployment has not only harmed the region’s socioeconomic standards, but has also pushed residents into debt and sadness.

Locals claim that the jobless crisis has taken a toll on an individual’s mental health in an illegally occupied area. Graduates, postgraduates, and doctorates with insufficient opportunities have the highest unemployment rate.

They claimed that the government was using a systematic policy to push more and more individuals into vagrancy. When Gilgit Baltistan residents stood up against the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) a few years ago, Pakistan promised them jobs, education, and prosperity.

Meanwhile, the inhabitants of Gilgit-Baltistan have been wracked by poverty, with no hope in sight. They have already stated their helplessness, but Pakistan’s position toward the region has remained unchanged.
