According to Taliban army chief of staff Qari Fasihuddin, Afghanistan would soon have a regular army to defend the country.

“Afghanistan will have a regular, disciplined, and strong army in the near future to fight and safeguard the country,” Fasihuddin told the Afghan radio station Salam Watandar, according to the Xinhua news agency.

According to the radio service, Fasihuddin said the members of the planned army will be well-trained and disciplined to fight and protect Afghanistan in his address to a meeting in Kabul on Wednesday.

On August 15, the Taliban took control of Kabul, the Afghan capital, and declared the formation of a caretaker government to run the country without professional police and army on September 7.
