Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid told local media on Sunday that the world will soon recognise the Taliban. The deputy minister told The Khaama Press that officials from a number of countries had visited Afghanistan, and that they (the Taliban) had also sent a petition to the UN Secretary-General requesting recognition. Mujahid added that recognition is their right, and that Taliban commanders are currently in talks with the UN.
Meanwhile, Russia, the United States, Japan, Canada, France, and the United Kingdom have stated that they will not recognise the Taliban-led administration.
The international world has set requirements for acknowledging the Taliban, including respecting human and women’s rights, forming an inclusive administration, and not allowing Afghanistan to become a safe haven for terrorism and extremism. All of them have been promised by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, but none of them appear to have been implemented yet.
