A man was arrested in Pakistan’s Karachi on Monday for breaking into and vandalising a Hindu shrine. A man entered a Hindu temple in Karachi’s Ranchore Line neighbourhood in the evening, according to Pakistani Urdu language news television network Samaa TV, and destroyed the statue of Hindu deity Jog Maya with a hammer.

The suspect was later arrested by members of the public and handed over to local authorities. According to reports in the media, the accused has been charged with blasphemy. Manjinder Singh Sirsa, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, condemned the act, calling it “state-sponsored terror against minorities.”

“In Ranchore, Pakistan, another Hindu temple has been desecrated. The vandals defended their actions by claiming that the Temple was unfit to be used as a place of worship. Pakistan’s minorities are subjected to state-sponsored terrorism.” Sirsa responded with a tweet.

In October, unidentified robbers desecrated the Hanuman Devi Mata Mandir in Sindh province. They made off with tens of thousands of rupees worth of jewellery and cash.
