Washington: The victim, who was between the ages of 50 and 60, was at a higher risk of serious COVID-19 consequences because he was vaccinated, according to the US health authority.

The Harris County health department in the United States announced on Monday that a man who was vaccinated died as a result of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.

According to ABC News, it’s thought to be the first known Omicron death in the US. A request for comment on the matter was not immediately returned by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

According to the health authorities, the victim, who was between the ages of 50 and 60, was at a higher risk of serious COVID-19 consequences since he was vaccinated.

The man was the first local victim of the variation, according to county judge Lina Hidalgo.

Hidalgo advised, “Please – get vaccinated and boosted” .

According to CDC sequencing data for the week ending December 18, the Omicron variant of the coronavirus is responsible for 73 percent of US coronavirus infections.

The first publicly documented fatality from Omicron was reported in Britain earlier in December.

Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab told Times Radio on Monday that 12 individuals in the UK had died as a result of the variation and 104 are presently in hospital with it.
