Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia, which has launched an invasion of his country, on Wednesday of attempting to “erase” Ukrainians, their country, and their history.
In a video address, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko stated that a missile strike on a target near the site of a Holocaust massacre demonstrates that “for many people in Russia, our Kyiv is completely foreign.”

The Tuesday night attack damaged Kyiv’s main television mast, which was built at Babi Yar, the site of World War II’s largest massacre of Kyiv Jews and a place of memorial and pilgrimage.

According to Ukrainian authorities, five people were killed in the strike itself, and the symbolism of the location highlighted the Russian threat to Ukrainian identity for Zelensky.

The Ukrainian president complained that the TV tower and sports complex were built on a “special part of Europe, a place of prayer, a place of remembrance” during Soviet rule.

“Outbuildings. They created a park there. To erase Babi Yar’s true history… This is beyond humanity “he stated.

“Such a missile strike demonstrates that our Kyiv is completely foreign to many Russians. They have no knowledge of our capital. In terms of our history, “He stated.

And he urged Jews all over the world to speak out.

“I am now speaking to all Jews around the world. Don’t you see what’s going on? That is why it is critical that millions of Jews around the world do not remain silent at this time “He stated.

“Nazism emerges in the shadows. So raise your voice in protest of civilian killings. Scream about the assassination of Ukrainians.”
