On the Western sanctions imposed in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, US President Joe Biden described India as “pretty fragile.” Speaking at the Business Roundtable’s CEO Quarterly Meeting, Biden indicated that India stood out among America’s other partners in terms of isolating Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“…The Quad is, with the possible exception of India being somewhat shaky on some of this, but Japan has been incredibly robust, as has Australia in dealing with Putin’s aggression…,” stated US  President Joe Biden.

In his remarks, Biden claimed that Putin underestimated the might of NATO and western partners in a global response to his invasion of Ukraine.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed “the need to return to a road of communication and diplomacy” at a virtual Quad conference earlier this month, while other members Australia, Japan, and the United States condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. India has also voted against a resolution asking for a return to dialogue at the United Nations.
