The Indian Embassy Offers Five Ways to Leave Ukraine During the War

Following a warning from the Indian embassy in Kyiv urging Indian people now present in Ukraine to leave as soon as possible, the mission published information on five possibilities for border crossing for Indian individuals. The Indian embassy in Kyiv on Wednesday issued an advisory, warning against traveling to the battle zone, and also asked Indian people presently in Ukraine to leave as soon as possible, as hostilities continue to increase across Ukraine.

Arindam Bagchi, a spokeswoman for the ministry of external affairs, informed the Indian embassy in Kyiv of the possibilities for border crossing for citizens of India based on the facts at hand. Information was provided on how to leave Ukraine by traveling over the borders with Hungary, Slovakia, Moldova, Poland, and Romania.

The embassy requested that Indian nationals travelling across borders continue to exercise vigilance. The Embassy said that the checkpoints are situated in the Zakarpathia area for the Ukraine-Hungary border (Tysa-only for vehicles, Dzvinkove, Luzhanka, Vylok, Chop). It noted that taking the train to Chop City is a practical choice.

According to the mission, Indian nationals must have a current passport, a current Posvidka (Ukrainian residency permit), a current student card or student certificate, and ideally a flight ticket in order to cross the border.

There are checkpoints along the Ukraine-Slovakia border in the Zakarpathia region (Uzhhorod-only for vehicles, Malyi Bereznyi, Mali Selmencionly for pedestrians). Indian citizens must seek a visa at the border checkpoint unless they already have a valid Schengen or Slovak visa, it was noted.

It stated that Indian nationals must have a valid passport, valid Ukrainian resident permit (Posvidka), valid student card or student certificate (if any), and preferably a flight ticket in order to obtain the visa and cross the border.

Additionally, checkpoints are situated in the regions of Chernivetska (Kelmentsy, Rososhany, Sokyryany, Mamalyha), Vinnytska (MohylivPodilskyi), and Odesska (Palanka-Mayaki, Starokozache) for the Ukraine-Moldova border.

Indian citizens must apply for a transit visa in advance at the Moldovan Embassy in Kiev unless they already have a valid visa for the country. Indian nationals must have a valid passport, a valid Posvidka (Ukrainian residency permit), a student card or certificate (if applicable), a plane ticket, and a transit visa for Moldova in order to cross the border.

Checkpoints are situated in the Lvivska (Rava-Ruska, Shegyni, Krakivets, Grushiv), and Volynska (Yagodyn) districts along the Ukraine-Poland border. Indian nationals must apply for a Schengen/Polish visa in advance at the Polish Consulate General in Lviv, unless they already have a valid one. Indian nationals must have a valid passport, a valid Posvidka (Ukrainian residency permit), a valid student card or certificate, ideally an airline ticket, and a Schengen or Polish visa in order to cross the border.
