Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan praised US President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw troops from Afghanistan, saying that the move had been met with “unfair criticism” and that it was the “most rational thing” to do. “There was so much unwarranted criticism of President Biden, and what he did was the most rational thing to do,” Khan remarked in an interview with Russia Today on Friday.

When asked if he had received any calls from the US President, Khan stated in an interview with CNN that Joe Biden is a “busy man.”

Khan announced on Saturday that his government has begun talks with the Taliban in order to build an inclusive government in Afghanistan.

Khan’s comments came during a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Dushanbe, when SCO members discussed Afghanistan-related matters in depth.

“I have begun negotiations with the Taliban for the inclusion of the Tajik, Hazara, and Uzbek communities in the Afghan government for an inclusive government,” Prime Minister Imran Khan said in a tweet after long meetings in Dushanbe with leaders of Afghanistan’s neighbours, especially Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon.

Khan stated that “far-reaching implications in terms of refugees” will result from the conflict in Afghanistan. According to a report published by Dawn on Friday, he also denied that Islamabad assisted the Taliban in their war against US forces.
