On Monday, the Taliban barred beardless government personnel from entering their offices in Afghanistan. According to eyewitnesses, agents of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice stopped Ministry of Finance staff members at the entrance because they were beardless, according to The Khaama Press.

Employees were only permitted to enter the ministry if they wore the caps recommended by Taliban representatives.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice denied that government employees had been stopped at the entrance, according to the article.

According to the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Muhammad Sadiq Akif, staff personnel of the Finance Ministry were halted for instruction and advice by officials of the Ministry of Virtue and Vice.

“All government bodies were told not to allow women without hijab and male employees of government administrations to dress in accordance with Sharia law,” Akif stated.

Even pro-Taliban officials have criticised the move, arguing that Islam has never forced individuals to grow beards.

Following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in August last year, various limitations were imposed on Afghans, notably women.

Earlier, the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice distributed posters throughout Kabul urging Afghan women to cover up.

Meanwhile, the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan is a nightmare for Afghan women. They have enforced several harsh laws on women, including the prohibition of education, labour, and long-distance travel.

Threatening women has become the ‘new normal’ in Afghanistan since the Taliban’s victory.

In Afghanistan, the Taliban has also prohibited hairdressers from shaving or trimming beards.

The gang is re-enforcing repressive laws and regressive policies. They are enforcing laws that established its rule from 1996 to 2001, when they implemented their interpretation of Islamic Sharia law.
