Jessie Diggins, a gold medallist in the team sprint in 2018, finished the Olympics in style for Team USA, taking silver in the 30k. It is the United States’ final Olympic medal in these Games, and it completes Diggins’ Olympic tally of gold, silver, and bronze. (Earlier in the year, she finished third in the individual sprint at Beijing.) She was already the most decorated cross-country skier in American history.

She confessed after the race that she’d had food sickness barely 30 hours previously and that her legs had cramped for the last 17 kilometers. “I don’t know how I made it to the end,” she said.
Therese Johaug of Norway took gold easily in a record of 1:24:54.0, with Diggins finishing less than two minutes behind in a time of 1:26:37.3.

The bronze medal, on the other hand, was a struggle until the bitter finish. Ebba Andersson (Sweden) was third for much of the race but dropped to ninth in the closing stages. Kerttu Niskanen of Finland won bronze, and American Rosie Brennan – who also pushed for the medal – finished second.

Mikaela Shiffrin’s Olympic medal aspirations for the 2022 Games were shattered on Saturday night (ET) after Team USA lost to Norway in the mixed team parallel event.
Shiffrin finished each round with four clean races, winning over Slovakia’s Rebeka Jancova and barely losing the other three on the slower red track.

Shiffrin recorded a rare “Did Not Finish” during the individual events at the Olympics in the slalom, giant slalom, and combined event. She was eighth in the super-G and 18th in the downhill.

The team discipline, which puts one skier from each country against one another in a slalom event, made its Olympic debut in 2018. The event was initially set for Friday night (ET), but it was postponed many times due to inclement weather before being rescheduled for Sunday.

Austria took home the gold medal, while Germany took home the silver. The reigning gold medalists, Switzerland, were ousted in the quarterfinals.
