According to local media, the governor of Sinaloa, Mexico, said on Saturday that a body discovered earlier this week was that of missing radio announcer Candida Cristal Vazquez.

On Thursday, police discovered a body in a canal in Mazatlan, a resort town on Mexico’s Pacific coast.

The mayor of the town, Luis Guillermo Benitez Torres, told reporters on Saturday that test results to confirm the body’s identity were pending, but that “everything indicates that it is her.”

In late July, Vazquez’s family reported her missing.

Vazquez’s death adds to the growing list of murdered journalists in what is already the deadliest year in Mexican press history.
