According to Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron met with Chinese President Xi Jinping while in China and “kissing his ass.”

For his first appearance on a major news programme since being charged in New York, the former US president spoke with Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

In a rambling interview, the presumed nominee for president of the Republican Party claimed that since he left office, the United States has lost power across the world.

You live in a chaotic world that is rapidly changing, and the US has no influence whatsoever, he said Carlson.

And Macron, a buddy of mine, is kissing China’s ass over there. China, all right! I announced, “France is now travelling to China.”

Following a state visit to China last week, where he warned against Europeans being too dependent on US foreign policy, Macron sparked a commotion.

Macron warned European nations not to become embroiled in the heated standoff between Beijing and Washington over Taiwan during comments made to media.

China has promised to retake control of Taiwan, while the US administration has vowed to support Taiwan’s self-defense.

As they spoke about Taiwan on Friday, Macron and Xi both issued statements cautioning against Europe becoming “caught up in crises that are not ours, which prevents it from building its strategic autonomy.”

The contradiction, according to Macron, is that we feel like America’s followers because we are so filled with panic. The worst thing would be for us Europeans to believe that we must adopt this goal and follow China’s overreaction as well as US policy.

The remarks raised eyebrows in Washington, but the White House made an effort to downplay them, with spokesman John Kirby stating that the Biden administration “remains at ease and confident in the fantastic bilateral relationship we have with France.”
