Boris Johnson, the British Prime Minister, will return to COP26 in the last days of the summit to encourage world negotiators to “convert pledges into action.”

Johnson was in Glasgow last week for a world leaders’ summit that started off the UN climate conference, and he’ll be back on Wednesday.

So far, the conference has made headlines with announcements like stopping coal power, backing green technology, and reversing deforestation. However, the nearly 200 countries in attendance are still a long way from reaching an agreement that will keep global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) beyond pre-industrial levels, as agreed by the world community.

“A shared time period for national commitments on carbon reductions and accepted methodology for countries to report on their climate action,” according to Johnson’s office, are among the concerns currently being worked out.

Rich countries have also made an unfulfilled pledge to contribute more money to the countries most vulnerable to climate change, which are frequently developing countries that have done the least to create it.

Johnson, along with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, will meet with government officials, negotiators, and civil society groups in a bid to give the discussions a boost.

The negotiations at COP26 are scheduled to end on Friday, but they could go on longer.
