After narrowly surviving a violent solo car crash on a steep, downhill suburban road in Los Angeles, the golf superstar Tiger Woods released a statement. At a University of California trauma centre, he underwent surgery for multiple leg injuries.

Mr. Woods suffered significant orthopaedic injuries to his right lower extremity, which were treated by orthopaedic trauma specialists at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, a trauma centre level 1, during emergency surgery. Comminuted open fractures were stabilised by inserting a rod into the tibia affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones. Additional injuries to the bones of the tibia. Anish Mahajan, MD, Chief Medical Officer & Interim CEO of the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center-Trauma to the muscle and soft tissue of the leg required surgical release of the muscle cover to relieve pressure due to swelling.”
According to the statement, Woods is “awake, responsive and recovering,”

Woods was on his way to a Discovery-owned GOLFTV photo shoot, and when he crashed a few minutes after 7 am, he was alone in his silver-colored SUV. He crossed two oncoming lanes before coming to a stop and rolled over multiple times. No further vehicles were involved in the Woods crash.
