Jake Sullivan, US NSA, dials Indian counterpart Ajit Doval, reaffirms its commitment to strong, lasting relationships

In his first call with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval on Wednesday, America’s new National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan reaffirmed President Joe Biden’s commitment to a strong and enduring bilateral strategic partnership based on a shared commitment to democracy, the White House said.

“Sullivan reaffirmed the commitment of President Biden to a strong and enduring strategic partnership between the US and India, based on our shared commitment to democracy,” the White House National Security Council said in a statement. This was the first call between the two national advisers for security.

“They discussed the importance of continuing close cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, promoting regional security, and renewing collaborative efforts on global challenges, including COVID-19 and climate change,” the statement said.
Sullivan, Biden’s close confidant, has spoken with his counterparts from eight countries so far.

They are Emmanuel Bonne, the French President’s Diplomatic Adviser; Jan Hecker, the German Chancellor’s Foreign and Security Policy Adviser; Dominic Raab, British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, the Commonwealth and Development; Shigeru Kitamura, Secretary-General of the National Security Secretariat of Japan.

He also spoke with the national security adviser of Afghanistan, Hamdullah Mohib, the national security adviser of the Republic of Korea, Suh Hoon, and the national security adviser of Israel, Meir Ben Shabbat.
