According to NHK, the alert was in place for two northern parts of the nation where the missile was allegedly headed.
The prime minister’s office tweeted shortly after that at around 8:00 am, stating that “a projectile that seems to be a North Korean ballistic missile has likely flown over Japan.”
The missile looked to have already touched down in the water, according to a statement from Japan’s coastguard, which also advised ships not to approach any falling items.
