London [United Kingdom]: On Wednesday (local time), British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the end of COVID-19 restrictions in England, including forced face masks.

“Our scientists believe that the Omicron wave has now reached its national peak. The government would no longer ask people to work from home “he stated.

Johnson went on to say that the United Kingdom was the first country in the world to give a vaccination and one of the first in Europe to do so.

“We made the bold decision to pursue our own vaccine procurement outside of the European Medicines Agency (EMA),” Johnson explained.

“We took the risk of opening last summer when others recommended against it, and we stayed open this winter when others shut down. As a result, Europe has the most open economy and society in the world, as well as the fastest-growing economy in the G7.” Johnson continued, ”

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom further stated that the United Kingdom is the first nation to emerge from the Omicron wave because the NHS was focused on delivering Europe’s fastest booster campaign.

“And it is because of the remarkable booster campaign, as well as the public’s reaction to the Plan B measures, that we can return to Plan A in England and let the Plan B laws expire,” Johnson added.

Face masks are required by law, COVID passes are required, and working from home is encouraged.

Johnson continued, “My government got the big things right.” “When confronted with the nation’s greatest crisis since WWII and the deadliest pandemic since 1918,” he observed, “any administration would get some things wrong.”

The action comes amid a spike in COVID-19 cases in the UK, as well as charges from his former chief adviser Dominic Cummings that the British prime leader misled to parliament about a drinks party held in the Downing Street garden during the first lockdown being linked to work.

“On the 18th of January, the UK Health Security Agency reported 94,432 new cases and 438 deaths in 28 days following a positive test,” the agency tweeted.

A total of 52,133,611 persons have got the first dosage of the vaccine, with 47,989,635 receiving the second dose.

In the meantime, the UK Health Security Agency reported that 36,546,583 persons received a booster dose.
