1.146 million undocumented refugees have returned to Afghanistan from Iran and Pakistan, with Iran accounting for the majority of them. Hundreds of thousands of Afghans have fled to neighbouring and other countries, including Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, India, Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada.
According to Khaama Press, emigration increased after the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan. According to a report by the UN’s International Organization for Migration, more than half a million people have been displaced in Afghanistan this year due to wars and insecurity (IOM).
According to the data, between January 1 and November 21, this year, 6,67,900 persons were internally displaced. A large number of immigrants from neighbouring countries such as Iran and Pakistan also returned to Afghanistan.
According to Khaama Press, the forced migration took place as the Taliban took control of the country. According to other unconfirmed statistics, the majority of Afghans, roughly 95%, have been living in poverty since August 15.
Afghanistan’s economy is suffering as well, in addition to increased poverty. According to Khaama Press, it has dropped by nearly 35% since the Taliban administration assumed power.
Many Afghans, including women leaders, journalists, rights activists, attorneys, and judges, were assisted in departing the Taliban-controlled country after western countries launched an emergency humanitarian evacuation operation.
