On Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed he is willing to negotiate with Russia and approached Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett to facilitate peace negotiations between the two countries.
Zelensky spoke with Bennett about the conflict in Ukraine and asked for his assistance in getting the mayor of Melitopol released. Zelenskyy posted on Twitter, “Dialogue with Israel’s Prime Minister, @naftalibennett, continues. We discussed Russian aggression as well as the prospects for peace talks. We must put an end to repression of civilians: we have been asked to assist in the release of Melitopol’s imprisoned mayor and other municipal officials.”
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that the special operation is exclusively targeting Ukrainian military facilities and that no civilians are at danger.

On February 24, Russia launched a military assault in Ukraine after the people’s republics of Donetsk and Luhansk requested aid in protecting themselves.
The West, on the other hand, dismisses the Russians’ assertions, and has retaliated by imposing broad sanctions on Moscow. They also imposed sanctions on Belarus for its assistance for Russia’s involvement in Ukraine.
