According to local media, a court in Sindh province has sentenced a Hindu college instructor to life in jail for blasphemy, with a fine of 50,000 levied by the session court.

Nautan Lal, a Government Degree College instructor, was arrested in 2019 and has been held as an under-trial prisoner since then.

During this time, his bail plea was turned down twice, according to the Daily Pakistan.

On September 14, 2019, a pupil alleged in a video that the owner of a local school had committed blasphemy.

According to the Centre for Research and Security Studies, Pakistan has had 1,415 cases of blasphemy since 1947.

From 1947 to 2021, 18 women and 71 men were extrajudicially executed for blasphemy, according to the research tank report. According to Dawn, the true number of incidents is considered to be greater because not all cases are disclosed by the think tank.
