In the United States, the death toll from Hurricane Ian has surpassed 110, and hundreds of thousands of people are still without power. According to a tally on Wednesday, at least 110 people have died as a result of Hurricane Ian, with 105 in Florida and five in North Carolina. Lee County in Florida has had 55 fatalities, while Charlotte County has had 24.

On Wednesday, US President Joe Biden travelled to Fort Myers, Florida, to survey storm-ravaged areas. As of Wednesday afternoon, nearly 300,000 customers in Florida were still without power. Ian made landfall in southwestern Florida last week, bringing catastrophic storm surges, heavy rains, destructive winds, and dangerous flooding.

Hurricane Ian, according to Biden, “is likely to rank among the worst in the nation’s history.” According to CoreLogic, a US research firm that estimates natural disaster losses, the estimated losses from Ian’s wind and storm surges range between $28 billion and $47 billion.
