The latest episode of Meghan Markle’s Archetype podcast, which debuted last month with Serena Williams as a guest, is now available. The most recent episode of the Duchess of Sussex’s podcast was released as the first one following Queen Elizabeth II’s death earlier this month. The most recent episode followed a discussion with journalist Lisa Ling and actor-comedian Margret Cho about toxic Asian stereotypes.

Meghan and the guests talked about their personal experiences, how they overcame stereotypes, the problematic portrayals of Asian women on television and in the media, and much more.

In the opening scene of the ‘Demystification of Dragon Lady’ episode, the Duchess recalled the various cultures she was exposed to growing up in Los Angeles, emphasising that many Asian cultures were a part of her life growing up. Meghan admitted that she had been unaware of the stereotypes that many Asian women had to deal with for a long time, and she emphasised the negative portrayal of Asians on film.

She stated: “This toxic stereotyping of Asian women doesn’t end when the credits roll. Movies like Austin Powers and Kill Bill portrayed Asian-descent women as oversexualized or aggressive.”

Three episodes of Archetype were aired prior to the death of Queen Elizabeth II, featuring guests such as Serena Williams, Mariah Carey, and Mindy Kaling who seemed to dispel gender stereotypes. Following the late monarch’s funeral on September 19, the Queen Elizabeth family observed a week of mourning. The Royal family then returned to work.

The podcast has resumed, but the release date for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Netflix docuseries has been pushed back even further due to the Queen’s death.
