In an effort to draw more affluent passengers, American Airlines, a major US airline, increased the number of suites on some of its longest flights. This choice was made as the global COVID-19 situation began to improve and the airline industry started to respond to the requests for business travel. American Airlines will roll out new suites featuring lie-flat seats and a sliding door for privacy starting in 2024. Additionally, American Airlines’ Flagship First class, which provided the best service on numerous intercontinental and international flights, will be discontinued with the launch of these opulent suites.
The project is the airline’s most recent effort to add extra seats for travellers who are willing to pay more for added comfort while travelling.
Major US airline CEOs recently stated that leisure travellers are buying more expensive premium tickets.
“We believe our Flagship Suite offering gives passengers with what they seek most on a long-haul flight: privacy doors, lie-flat seating, direct aisle access, and greater personal space,” the airline said in a statement.
“By 2026, American’s long-haul fleet will have more than 45 percent more premium seats thanks to the addition of new interiors. 51 Flagship Suite seats and 32 Premium Economy seats will be available on American’s Boeing 787-9 aircraft, while 20 Flagship Suite seats and 12 Premium Economy seats will be available on the carrier’s Airbus A321XLR aircraft “In a statement, the airline stated.
Flagship Business will remain available on American Airlines’ current fleet of Boeing 777-200, 787-8, and 787-9 aircraft, the airline announced.
American Airlines has not specified how much it will spend to improve the cabin.
Airlines have been shrinking or getting rid of first-class cabins to make place for reconfigured business-class seats and premium economy sections for years.
