WORLD CAT DAY 2022: World Cat Day is commemorated yearly on August 8. This campaign was created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare to increase awareness of the requirements and preferences of cats and to motivate cat owners to come up with creative ways to improve their relationships with their pets.

Background

Cats have long served as cultural and historical symbols. They were held in high regard in ancient Egyptian culture. Bastet was an ancient Egyptian deity who was worshipped first as a lioness and then as a cat. Bastet, the Sun God Re’s daughter, was an ancient divinity whose violent temperament was altered and enhanced following the domestication of the cat circa 1500 BCE. Cats have solidified their place in popular culture over time.

THE IMPORTANCE OF WORLD CAT DAY: Cats and dogs are the most often domesticated animals worldwide. This day might be seen as an opportunity to recognise the joy and friendship that cats provide to their owners’ lives. However, we should also love and care for stray cats. The majority of these cats are unfortunate and lead a harsh life. One of the primary goals of this day is to not only pamper your cat at home, but also to care for stray cats, who deserve to be loved as well.

Here are some ways to celebrate World Cat Day:

Adopting a cat from an animal shelter is a good place to start. Instead of purchasing a cat, consider those in need of a home and affection.

Volunteer: If you are unable to adopt a cat for whatever reason, you can always assist out at one of the pet shelters.

You will be able to bond with the creatures and spend your time in a more enriching way.
Serve them their favourite meal as a treat: You may show your cat how much you care by making this day extra special for them. Give your cats their favourite dishes as treats, such as tuna and other foods they prefer.
