According to Vice, Chinese authorities in the town of Dandong have asked residents to close their windows to protect themselves from Covid “blowing in from North Korea.” Dandong is bordered by North Korea and separated by a river hundreds of meters wide. The city has not seen many Covid infectious diseases in the past, but there has recently been a surge, prompting stricter pandemic precautions. Local government officials have been unable to identify the cause of the increase in cases and have advised residents living along the Yalu River to maintain their windows closed.
The idea that COVID-19 can travel long distances by air has perplexed public health officials. “I’ve never heard of this occurring before, where COVID-19 particles travel such great distances,” said ViceProfessor Leo Poon, a global health expert at the University of Hong Kong. Toshikazu Abe, the director of emergency medical care at Tsukuba Memorial Hospital, also spoke to the publication and said, “COVID-19 traveling within a large gymnasium, perhaps, but crossing villages? “I don’t believe so.”

Since the Coronavirus outbreak, China has been recognised to follow a zero COVID strategic plan, which is President Xi Jinping’s signature policy.

Chinese authorities have recently increased their support for the strategy, claiming that it is saving lives and threatening action against critics who suggest that an exit strategy is not imminent.

According to analysts, the Chinese government is on track to splurge more than $52 billion this year on testing, new healthcare centers, monitoring equipment, and other anti-COVID measures that will benefit up to 3,000 companies.
